Need help with Graphic Design for direct mail pieces or branding your company?

Direct mail marketing requires different tactics to achieve the desired goal and our printing services help. We can print a marketing piece for any situation or goal you have in mind. Want to inform your target audience about a particular topic? Would you like to increase the number of clients or customers for your small business? Maybe you are trying to raise funds for your Non Profit Organization? Whatever the reason is, make sure you choose the right marketing material for the job.

Below are a few popular direct mail marketing materials, through our printing services.

Postcards

These tend to be great for brand awareness, getting clients and marketing an event or offer. Try to select a nice high-resolution image and keep the text “short and sweet” since postcards usually run on the smaller side of sizing. Postcards are very good for spreading quick information and are cost-effective.

Sizes – 4” x 6”, 4.25” x 6”, 5” x 7”, 5.5” x 8.5”, 6” x 9”, 6” x 11”

Envelopes

They are a great way to hold packets of information such as appeal letters, invoices, personalized letters and much more. Getting creative by adding screened images, bright colors and assorted paper stock is a good way of getting some attention.

Sizes – Check out our Envelope Sizes and Inserts page.

Letters / Flyers

Simple single page piece of paper, printed primarily front and back. Great for appeal letters, hand-out flyers, mail merged letters, invoices, fundraising and other general information. These can be tri-folded, half-folded and sent out through envelopes or even kept flat. You typically cannot mail these out on their own.

Sizes – 3.667” x 8.5” (tri-folded paper), 5.5” x 8.5” (half folded paper), 8.5” x 11” (flat)

Self-Mailers

A self-mailer is a piece of paper that conforms to USPS® mailing regulations with tabs and correct folding. They can be a good idea for spreading information such as an offer, update to your business, news and more while being incredibly inexpensive. We prefer to use a heavier paper stock to avoid being damaged by USPS® automation machinery.

Sizes – 3.667” x 8.5” (tri-folded paper), 5.5” x 8.5” (half folded paper)

Brochures

Same as a self-mailer but does not get mailed, mostly used for marketing and educational information. Ideal for handing out or mailing in an envelope. They can be packed full of information and laid out with high-resolution images.

Sizes – 3.667” x 8.5” (8.5” x 11” tri-folded paper), 5.667” x 8.5” (11” x 17” tri-folded paper), 4.25” x 8.5” (11” x 17” double parallel / accordion / roll folded paper)

Newsletters

Similar to a self-mailer but can be bigger and contain more information. They can be tri-folded down to letter automation rates or half-folded as flats automation rates. We prefer to use a heavier paper stock to avoid being damaged by USPS® automation machinery.

Sizes – Same as Self-Mailer, 5.667” x 8.5” (11” x 17” tri-folded paper), 4.25” x 8.5” (11” x 17” double parallel / accordion / roll folded paper), 5.5” x 8.5” (11” x 17” french folded paper), 8.5” x 11” (11” x 17” half folded paper)

Flats

Bigger mail pieces that exceed letter automation rates such as magazines, directories, catalogs, over-sized postcards and bigger envelopes. Great for creating artwork that contains a lot of information and multiple paged. They also do not need to be tabbed or folded like letter automation rate pieces. For more information on flats check out our Postal Dictionary page.

Sizes – 6” x 9” (booklets, small directories), 8.5” x 11” (flat, multiple paged, stapled), 9” x 12” (brown Kraft envelopes), EDDM® mail pieces.

Inks

Cornerstone Services, Inc. printing services allow you to print in an assortment of colors and inks. When working with printers you will encounter some terms commonly used to describe how to print the material you selected. For example, when choosing colors you will come across the phrase “4-over-4” or “1/0”, either way refers to the number of process colors and which side of the page.

The type of process colors you want to use on your artwork:

Term Meaning
1/0 Greyscale color on front, nothing on back
1/1 Greyscale color on front and on the back
4/0 Full Color printing on the front, nothing on the back
4/1 Full Color printing on the front, greyscale on the back
4/4 Full Color printing on both sides of the artwork

Pre-Press Design

Crop Marks (Crops)

These are cross-hair styled markings made by your design software to indicate where the artwork will be cut for its final size.

Bleeds

Whenever the color for your artwork is intended to be to the edge after it is cut, you will need to extend the color past the size of the artwork to account for it being trimmed to it’s final size. Crop marks usually go hand in hand with bleeds to show where it’s being cut and that color is going off the edge.

Bleeds

A coating that is applied after your artwork is printed to give it a shine with gloss, silk, UV. This allows colors to pop and stand out using the natural reflective properties the finish has. With our printing services you can also select from non-glossy finishes such as Matte or Un-coated.

A = Bleed Marks, B = Crop Marks, C = Inks (Full Color), D = Coating/Finish (Gloss UV on Front Only)
