Make Your Appeal Letters and Messaging Resonate in the First Person

Effective artistic creation — whether literature, music, film, or painting — is most effective when it allows an individual to experience, to communicate its message in the first person. That is, the artistic medium allows the audience member (reader, viewer, agent, listener) to experience the artistic endeavor as though he or she were the artist.

 

Your Appeal Letters need to do the same thing. Here are questions you could ask yourself before going to print:

* Are you communicating the messaging well?
* Did you put aside what you wrote for a day and come back later to re-read? Did you feel anything upon re-reading what you wrote?
* Did you have others read what you wrote?
* Did you add too much, or do you need to add more?
* Are there images that underscore your message?
* Do you think the recipient will care about what you’re saying? Honestly… is your appeal going to hit the heartfelt mark, or is it just more information?
