Did you know? The Swiss Post Office ranks as the best postal service in the world, scoring a perfect 100/100 in reliability, reach, relevance, and resilience, according to the Universal Postal Union’s 2020 Postal Development Report (source: UPU).
Switzerland leads 170 global postal systems, while the United States Postal Service ranks 7th globally, albeit with steady improvements each year.

The worst-ranking country was Mali, with a score of 0.00/100, beating out Haiti (0.34/100) and Mozambique (1.73/100) for last. Mali technically does have a postal system (Office National des Postes du Mali a.k.a. La Poste du Mali). Still, it lacks a system of postal codes to facilitate regional distribution and logistics. Nonetheless, the USPS® currently does have open delivery channels with La Poste du Mali for most rate classes of mail (ref: https://pe.usps.com/IMM_Archive/HTML/IMM_Archive_20060108/imm/immicl/immicllm_016.html)

For the U.S., what does 7th place mean? Seventh place worldwide translates to a score of 83.5 out of 100, and – good news – the USPS® improved its score over prior years. That said, the USPS® motto of “Neither snow nor rain nor sleet nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds” has lost some of its luster, and perhaps doesn’t have the same panache that it once did, either domestically or globally.

Maybe the Swiss know something we don’t!
