Crazy Stuff You Can Mail Through the Postal Service

Fun Fact Friday! Cinder Blocks!

You might think that the USPS wouldn’t allow cinder blocks to be mailed.  Well, you’d be right, but guess what?  They do!  Yes, you can ship cinder blocks via USPS, but let’s consider the pluses and minuses: 
 
Pluses 
* It’s funny, at least once, more than once, it starts to beg questions of the sender and perhaps even the recipient. 
* You can say you did it. 
 
Minuses 
*  It’s not practical. 
*  It’s expensive. 
*  It could get damaged in shipping. 
*  You have a very possible immediate “No way!” response without a USPS supervisor’s intervention 
*  Hard to say it’s cool… we mean, well, we’re not sure if cinder-block shipping qualifies as “cool”.  “Unusual”, yes – it would be unusual, but “cool”?  We’re not sure if it’s “cool”.  (Of course, you don’t want to box it – that certainly takes away any available coolness factor, assuming potential and available coolness to be had.)  
 
Mostly, consider that there are USPS DMM 300 weight (and size) restrictions as per USPS DMM 600.1.2.1 wherein there is a maximum weight limit of 70 lbs. and dimensional limits (length plus girth) of 130 inches.  Cinder blocks, being quite heavy, even at Ground Advantage parcel rate services, would still be taxing on everyone involved.  
 
So, hey, go for it!  However, do print out a copy of the USPS DMM link above… chances are that your local retail clerk is not going to agree with you on said-coolness factor.
